The Name

JANUS was one of the most important gods during the Ancient Rome time. Janus is the God of the Beginning and controls all the paths and thresholds, either the material ones like the cities and the house doors or the immaterial ones like the beginning of a new venture, the human or economic life, the historic and mythic time.

JANUS is shown as a two face god.A legend says that, thanks to his hospitality, he got from the god Saturn the possibility to see the past and forecast the future.

When calling the new hybrid machine series “VJ Janus” we want to communicate the innovativations inside the project which means an important step ahead for injection moulding machine technology.

The Machine

JANUS is the result of Negri Bossi’s lengthy experience in the manufacture of hydraulic machines and “full electric” machines, combined with extremely high performance, low consumption and easy management and maintenance.

After producing a fully hydraulic series, followed by a fully electric series, Negri Bossi decided to develop JANUS, a series of hybrid machines incorporating an ideal combination of the two technologies. Electric actuators for mould clamping and screw rotation, and hydraulic actuators for injection phases allow the machine to overlap movements, while providing high application flexibility through the various configurations that can be made using, for example, variable delivery pumps in the accumulator area.

The Janus  has been foreseen with  the hydraulic injection available in two different versions, one with Variable Delivery Digital Pumps and a high performance version with Accumulators and Servovalves.

The new Janus Series has been introduced to the market to complete the Negri Bossi injection moulding machine range for thermoplastic materials.

As there are many different applications in the injection moulding field, the machines are specifically adapted to the customer’s requirements.

The” Best” or the “General Purpose “machine does not exist but the customers have to find the right machine for their application.

After being present on the market with the full electric and the hydraulic machines, Negri Bossi decided to develop this hybrid machine family which represents the link between the two.

The new hybrid Janus shows comparable consumption with the electric machines but with a better modularability which helps to produce the perfect machine for any specific application.

The Clamping unit movements and the screw rotation are achieved by means of electric drives.

The injection phase is hydraulic and can be supplied either with Variable Delivery pumps when the application is a technical item requiring an injection speed of max 100 mm/ sec or with Accumulators for injection speeds up to 250 mm/ sec in case when moulding thin wall parts or when the cycle time is very short.
